Slamming....

This concept of slamming the boards sounded fairly strange to me at first but when i saw what it achieved , I found it to be quite helpful. Many boards are filled with false answers and it is a great relief that proper librarians can come on and post helpful and correct answers. :-)

The public would be able to rate books and videos in terms of their reliability and how much they relate to their topic which they are discussing. This will help students and researchers in using books which are helpful and which many people have read and considered to be very helpful.

The same concept can be used with CD's and videos in the library. Nobody wants to listen to a bad movie or cd, but then again the library only buys good stuff ;-)

Library Thing

This is a great place to show your book collection and also to find people who share the same interests :-)

Shared Bookmarks

This has also been something that I have discovered due to doing this course and let me just say that I absolutely love it. I always make bookmarks from my favorite websites and now that they can be accessed by anybody anywhere is excellent.

This would be an excellent addition to the library because it can give people a better tool when researching. This is due to the fact that the public would be able to look at websites picked out by staff who know informative sites. Also people can bookmark sites that they find and share them with other, thus also letting people to work together; as they say 2 brains is better than 1.

Frozen People

Human Tetris!!!

The Video Phenomenon

This week I have focused on videos on the internet. Through the use of YouTube and the newly discovered Google video, I was able to see some quite interesting things which people have posted. They range from the strange to the funny to the quite informative as can be seen with the tutorial videos which we use every week. I searched for Mosman Library and found out some videos of guest speakers that they had on , which I found to be a very interesting way to use this technology.

If this technology is implemented into the library I think that we can use it to showcase the library and its features; items such as guest speakers, presentations and also to give a tour of the library.

The Wonderful World of Wikis

Wikis replace the traditional way of gathering ideas/information on a task that has to be done by a group/team of people. By using this manner of communicating and organising it eliminates the need to get everybody together and which in turn saves time and resources.

In the library, wikis can provide and excellent tool for not only the public but the employees of the library too. For example if there has been a certain way of carrying out a procedure in the library and it has been set up as a Wiki, if somebody finds a better way to carry out the task then they may go into it and change it allowing people who use it in the future to benefit from the new knowledge. Also we may put up ideas and designs for new thing s at the library as wikis and the public can come together and input ideas into making it better.

RSS... what?

Well today I discovered the wonderful world of RSS Feeds. For those who are unfamiliar with them they are these neat little feeds which you can subscribe to and whenever they get updated, you receive the update.

The great thing about them is that they are available for a wide range of topics so I am sure that if you look for something in your area of interest, they will have a rss feed for it.

I love my sports especially soccer so I signed up to a couple of sport feeds one of which is ESPN. Also I signed up to Powerhouse Museum picture of the day, which has some great shots and also to the Daily Telegraph which will keep me up to date with the news. Hopefully the feed can bring me some good news in regards to soccer... Go Arsenal!!!

Honestly if libraries used this technology to its full potential the results would be great. Not only would they be able to give people updates on new activities in the library but they would be doing it through a media which is becoming more and more popular. It will definitely attract more people to start using the library.

So ladies and gentlemen , in conclusion RSS feeds are something which I which ifI had been made aware of before, I wouldn't have to check on every different website the scores for the footy and the latest transfers... ah well better late than never :-)

Discovered Photo Sharing Sites :-)

I found a good picture on Flickr "http://www.flickr.com/photos/classicpep/159047710/". I just thought I would let everybody have a chance to look at it and have a good laugh. There are alot more pictures on Flickr that should be checked out.

I personally found it very interesting and as you can see by my picture choice very humerous also :-). So if anybody has not checked out picture sharing sites then the time is now because there are alot of engaging and humerous pictures on them.

P.S I am starting to get the hang of the "blogging experience" :-)
